The Blount County Education Foundation was created in 1998 to "promote academic excellence in Blount County Schools." Since that time the Foundation has provided over $1,000,000 to Blount County Schools through its various projects! Wow!
The Blount County Education Foundation is an IRS approved 501(c)3 Non-profit organization. It has its own Board of Directors who conduct the business of the Board of Education. The address is P. O. Box 603, Oneonta, AL 35121. The Board of Education allows the Education Foundation to use its facilities as needed. The Blount County Education Foundation and the Blount County Board of Education are collaborative partners, working to improve Blount County Schools. The Foundation's mission is "to promote academic excellence in Blount County Schools."
The Blount County Education Foundation has several projects, of which the classroom grant project is the primary one. In the past 10 years the Foundation has awarded $499,598 for 733 innovative classroom grant projects! The Foundation annouces awards each year - $88,053 was awarded on November 21, 2008!
Other projects of the Education Foundation include: tutoring for at-risk students, Reading Buddy Volunteer Program, recognition of the Blount County Teachers of the Year, special grants for library media resources to support struggling learners, and special school grants for employee giving contest winners.
