Substitute Opportunities

Substitutes are an important part of the Blount County School system.  A substitute is a person serving in the place of an absent employee or in a vacant position.


Substitute Requirements (All)

1.  Applicants must be twenty-two (22) years of age or older

2.   Applicants must be fingerprinted prior to applying for a substitute position with the Blount County Board of Education.  Upon completing the fingerprinting process, you may apply for as a substitute custodian or lunchroom position.  To complete a background clearance visit

 3.   Complete a Substitute application and payroll forms at the Blount County Board of Education at 204 Second Avenue East, Oneonta, Alabama. Items required at time of application: •    Driver’s license •    Social security card or proof of eligibility to work in the United States •    Deposit slip or Voided check for direct deposit

 4.   Attend substitute training provided by the Blount County Board of Education.  Fall training date to be determined.


Additional Substitute Teacher Requirements

1.  High School diploma or GED certificate

2. Complete an Alabama Substitute Teacher License Application.  Applications must be completed and submitted to the Blount County Board of Education with a copy of high school diploma, transcripts or GED certificate.

3. A $30.00 nonrefundable application fee is required for a substitute teacher license.  Fee may be paid online at or payable by cashier’s check or money order to Alabama State Department of Education.  If pay online, please provide receipt of payment.
