Welcome to Blount County Schools

Blount County Schools Press Release April 4, 2019

Blount County Schools has received the AdvancED Engagement Review Report from the February 10-13th visit. The review team visited 14 schools, conducted 77 eleot classroom observations, and interviewed 307 people including students, teachers, administrators, support staff, parents, business and community leaders.

This was the most comprehensive accreditation review that Blount County Schools has experienced with a deeper focus on student learning and stakeholder engagement. The final report was outstanding. Blount County Schools received an Index of Educational Quality of 311.94, which was higher and showed improvement from their review five years ago! The average AdvancED IEQ range for all institutions evaluated for accreditation over the last five years was 278-283. An IEQ of 275 and above indicates the institution is beginning to reach the Impact level and is engaged in practices that are sustained over time and are becoming ingrained in the culture. This is a great accomplishment for Blount County Schools! This report and progress is only made possible due to the dedication and hard work of the BCS family which includes students, parents, teachers, administrators, support staff, and supportive community members who love and care about the schools in our county.

The visiting team was very complimentary of our school system and described the learning culture as a caring, supportive family. They reported commendations on well-managed facilities, quality teachers and staff, leadership, resource management, stakeholder engagement, and planning for continuous improvement.

The Governing Board was complimented for leadership and commitment to a new purpose and direction through a strategic plan that details learning and improvement efforts for the next five years. The Board and system administrators were complimented on system operations, finance, and policies that ensure system effectiveness and consistency. The team noted improvements in achievement scores, graduation rates, and college/career readiness indicators and the focus on professional learning in the district. They encouraged continued focus on curriculum alignment with standards and common assessments across all subjects and grade levels. They also encouraged the continued movement towards standards-based grading practices and report cards.

Overall, Superintendent Rodney Green is extremely pleased with the report! The report confirms full System Accreditation for all schools and programs. It also gives our community the assurance that Blount County Schools is meeting the needs of our students now and has plans to meet those needs moving forward! In the words of the visiting team, "What you have here you can't find everywhere!" One of the team members said, "I would like for my kids to go to school here!" These comments speak more to the quality of Blount County Schools and our people than any score could.
