James E. Carr, Superintendent

"...for the past decade we have allowed assessment and accountability to consume our focus and [...] we are programmed to go there first when decisions impacting public education are considered. The new reality is we are moving away from that model to one with a focus on teaching and learning...." --Dr. Thomas R. Bice, State Superintendent of Education

“Based on our findings from the review of evidence, this External Review Team recommends that the Blount County School System be accredited by the AdvancEd Accreditation Commission.” This was the final comment made by AdvancEd Lead Evaluator, Dave Stipe, during a special called meeting of the Blount County Board of Education on Wednesday, April 16, 2014.

The report is a culmination of a four-day extensive evaluation process by the six-member AdvancEd External Review Team. The team’s task is to determine the district’s effectiveness in meeting the established requirements of accreditation. This is accomplished by analyzing and evaluating three areas: impact of teaching and learning, leadership capacity, and utilization of resources.

The Blount County School District received an outstanding report! What a great accomplishment for our system! This was possible due to the dedication and hard work of our students, parents, community stakeholders, teachers, administrators, and staff. Thank you for your support of this process, which helped us maintain our district accreditation honor and recognition.

A full report will be provided to us in approximately thirty days, and I will share the complete results with the district when it is received. Again, thank you for all you did to make the district accreditation process, especially the visit, a success!
